Igor Thiago has officially joined Brentford after signing for the club in February from Club Bruges.

The Athletic reported earlier this year that Brentford had agreed to sign the 23-year-old striker and he would join the club at the start of the summer transfer window (today, July 1).

Thiago has signed a five-year deal with Brentford that will keep him at the Gtech Community Stadium until at least 2029.

“I’m very happy to have signed for Brentford and to get to know the club,” Thiago said. “It’s an immense source of happiness for me, to be able to play for this club in the Premier League. I’m really looking forward to this moment. And I know, I’m sure of it, that it will be a great journey and a great season.”

GO DEEPER

Who is Igor Thiago? How long have Brentford tracked him? Is he Ivan Toney’s replacement?

Thiago scored 29 goals and provided six assists in 55 games for Club Bruges last season, before spraining the medial ligament in his right knee in May and missing the end of the season.

He added: “I’m ready to be in the Premier League because of the moves I’ve made in my career.

“I think everyone here can expect a lot from me as a player, as an athlete, and that I will always want to win.

“I’m very happy and very pleased to be the first Brazilian here in Brentford. I think showing a little of the culture, Brazilian football and Brazilian energy within the club, is going to be very important.

“They’ll get to know a little of this Brazilian flair, this Brazilian football with will, with determination and good energy. I always dream, because I think the most important thing in an athlete’s life is to always dream.”
