According to CBS News (and PBS), hundreds of thousands of immigrants living illegally in this country may soon get legal status, provided that they have been here for at least a decade.

Of course, the mainstream media is calling the Biden plan “one of the largest immigration relief programs in recent history,” but it’s otherwise known as “amnesty.”

The Biden administration is making plans to announce one of the largest immigration relief programs in recent history, developing a policy that would offer legal status to hundreds of thousands of immigrants living in the country without proper documents, four people familiar with the plans told CBS News.

A program being developed by White House officials would offer work permits and deportation protections to unauthorized immigrants married to U.S. citizens, as long as they have lived in the U.S. for at least 10 years, the sources said, requesting anonymity to talk about internal government plans.

Word has already spread internationally, as Venezuelan outlet “El Pitazo” quickly picked up on it:

Google Translate indicates that the tweet reads thusly:

#ParoleInPlace | President Joe Biden is preparing to announce new immigration benefits aimed at people who remain in the country irregularly, but who have ties in the United States.

It would not be the first time the administration has told people, “Hey, don’t worry about that legal status thing”:

The program, to be known as “Parole in Place,” will be sold as a way to help the spouses of immigrants and would of course be done by executive order because that is the way the president is able to force his policies on the country—regardless of whether there’s been a congressional vote.

Biden is expected to make the announcement Tuesday, according to multiple sources, at a planned White House event marking the 12th anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, which shielded more than 800,000 children brought to the U.S. as children from deportation.

A White House official said no final decisions have been made on what additional executive actions might be taken. White House spokesperson Angelo Fernández Hernández added that the administration “continues to explore a series of policy options and we remain committed to taking action to address our broken immigration system.”

If implemented, it’s unclear how many undocumented spouses would receive protections, but some lawmakers and immigration advocates have estimated it could affect up to 1.1 million people.

CBS notes the obvious, namely that conservatives and Republicans are likely to be angered by the unilateral move—even though Democrats arguably have been telegraphing that this was their plan all along.

The program would almost certainly garner vocal opposition from Republican lawmakers, who have increasingly taken strong stances against “amnesty” for those living in the U.S. illegally.

“Biden’s border is still in crisis and his latest idea is amnesty. This will invite more chaos,” said Sen. James Lankford of Oklahoma, the lead Republican negotiator of a border security deal brokered by the White House and a group of senators earlier this year.

There are doubtless many moving stories concerning illegal aliens and the perils they face. But the fact remains that they entered this country in violation of our laws, and for decades Democrats and even some Republicans have rewarded them for it.

We’re basically inviting people into our country with measures like this—what’s to deter folks from heading to places like California, where they’re greeted with open arms and given all sorts of free stuff? They know that all they have to do is wait it out long enough until the next amnesty proposal comes along.

And in the meantime, they will just keep coming.
