NEW YORK — A contest between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the New York Mets devolved into a war of words between Mets reliever Jorge López and third base umpire Roman De Jesus in the eighth inning Wednesday. It ended with a fan in the second row holding López’s glove.

The confrontation began after De Jesus tossed López seemingly for arguing a checked swing call during a nightmare eighth inning. López entered the game just a few batters earlier and had an error on a pickoff attempt, allowed a two-run double, then allowed a two-run home run before being tossed.

As López exited the field with his hat off and jersey untucked, he launched his glove over the protective netting and into the stands. It was caught by a fan wearing a New York Yankees hat.

The Dodgers went on to win 10-3 as the Mets fall to 22-33. New York is 4-15 since May 10.
