PWHL Boston sweeps Montreal, advances to finals with overtime win

PWHL Boston completed its sweep of Montreal with a 3-2 overtime win in Game 3 of the semifinals on Tuesday night.

Boston came back from a 2-0 deficit in the third period with goals by Sophie Shirley and Amanda Pelkey to force overtime. Susanna Tapani, who was acquired via trade with Minnesota in February, scored the game-winner just over one minute into the extra period.

Boston is now the first team, ever, to advance to the PWHL Finals. It’s quite the turnaround for a team that spent much of the season at the bottom of the league standings. Boston won four of its last five regular season games and clinched a spot in the postseason with a 4-3 win against Montreal in the team’s final game.

This story will be updated.
