Jets owner Woody Johnson denies report of ‘heated’ exchange with coach Robert Saleh

New York Jets owner Woody Johnson said that a report that he and coach Robert Saleh argued at the NFL’s recent league meetings was “nonsense” on Thursday.

The report came from Tuesday’s episode of the Around The NFL podcast where the NFL Network’s Colleen Wolfe cited a source and said there was “a very heated conversation” between the Jets owner and coach.

“To the point where it was a little awkward,” she said.

“All this nonsense about a heated argument between Coach Saleh and me at the League Meeting is absolutely false.” Johnson wrote in a post on X. “It is yet another irresponsible report from NFL Network. Please disregard.”

The report was widely circulated likely because of the perception that Saleh is on the hot seat after back-to-back disappointing seasons.

The Jets finished 7-10 for the second straight season. New York began last year with optimism after trading for four-time MVP Aaron Rodgers before the start of the season.

Rodgers, however, only played four snaps before his season ended with a torn Achilles.

Noisy offseason continues

Saleh recently said he was hoping for things to quiet down around the Jets after a noisy 2023. Unfortunately for the Jets coach, it’s been a noisy offseason — not many coaches can say they had to respond to rumors their quarterback might run for vice president, after all. None of this noise ultimately matters in the grand scheme of things.

The Jets have the roster talent to be a legitimate playoff threat this season if all their key pieces — namely quarterback Aaron Rodgers — can stay healthy. Winning cures all ails — and the Jets just need to get back to the playoffs after a 13-year drought. — Zach Rosenblatt, Jets beat writer
