Dani Alves’ defence has deposited his €1million bail and he could leave prison as early as Monday.

Bail was set as a request from Alves’ defence while all the sides are waiting on the outcome of all the appeals submitted against the initial ruling.

Alves, 40, was sentenced to four and a half years in prison for rape in February.

The final ruling on all the appeals could take up to two more years, according to reports in Spain.

Alves can’t leave the country and he will have to surrender his Spanish and Brazilian passports to Spanish authorities as measures to assure he does not.

He will also have to report once a week to a Barcelona court.

He won’t be allowed to be within 1km of the victim and is forbidden from contacting her by any means.

The source of the funds is as yet unclear.

Initially, when bail was set five days ago, there was speculation that Neymar’s father could pay the money as he already did during the trial when he offered to pay €150,000 for moral damage to the victim in attempted mitigation of the final ruling.

However, Neymar’s father confirmed on Friday he would not pay the money now because “the situation is different” as “the Spanish authorities have now already made a decision”.

There is speculation in the local media that one factor in this decision may be the potential impact on sponsorship deals for his son should he do so.

Alves spent the last 14 months in the Brians 2 prison in Catalonia.
