San Francisco 49ers offensive lineman Trent Williams has lost his twin son at 35 weeks after the boy was stillborn, shortly after the other twin died during pregnancy.

Trent’s wife, Sondra Williams, broke the tragic news on Sunday, December 1, alongside videos and photos from her journey.

“👼🏽My Forever Angel, Trenton O’Brien Williams Jr. 💙,” Sondra shared via Instagram. “💔It’s been extremely hard trying to process the saddest Hello and Goodbye that I’ve ever had to endure. Last Sunday night on 11/24/24; I welcomed your lifeless 4lb 8oz 18.5 in long little body at 11:38pm. At only 35 weeks, your impactful and quick arrival didn’t even give mommy time to get an epidural.”

Sondra gave thanks to her sister, Katina, who was by her side for the difficult process and even cut baby Trenton’s cord. In her post, Sondra revealed losing Trenton came on the heels of a separate tragedy earlier in the pregnancy.

Football fans have mourned a heartbreaking amount of NFL stars in 2024. In February, Tony Hutson passed away at age 48, according to an obituary shared at the time. No cause of death was given. “Lost one of my favorite teammates and great friends in Tony Hutson last night,” Hutson’s former teammate Randall Godfrey wrote […]

“🙏🏾As much as I tried to prepare myself for our meeting, I wasn’t prepared nor would I ever be,” Sondra wrote. “After losing your twin early in the pregnancy, I prayed and hoped that your diagnosis of Trisomy 13 wasn’t true and wouldn’t be the fate of my long awaited beautiful Son-shine.☀️”

According to the Cleveland Clinic, Trisomy 13 is “a rare genetic condition when an extra copy of chromosome 13 attaches to a pair of chromosomes,” which impacts how the face, brain and heart develop.

“My firstborn and only son, I’ve always wanted you, but God wanted and needed you more,” Sondra continued. “Knowing you are in Heaven with your Great-Aunt Vivian and that you will Always be our Guardian Angel 👼🏽 brings me great comfort in the midst of all this sorrow. My heart is heavy. Being home without you in my arms has been quite an adjustment. Knowing I will never be able to watch you grow older alongside your sisters has my eyes filled with tears.😭”

Sondra and Trent share three daughters: Micah, Makayla and Madison

“I know you’ll always be near watching over me and your sisters. 💞👼🏽 And for that, my heart smiles with gratitude 💙,” Sondra concluded. “👼🏽Thank God for allowing us to bond for 35 weeks and for me to birth you so I could hold you in my arms. I’m at peace knowing you will never have to suffer. Although I will never hear your soft coos and cries or see those beautiful little eyes staring up at me, I am grateful to God for the time I shared with you.”

Trent was inactive for the 49ers game against the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, officially ruled out with an ankle injury.

The Williams’ family tragedy comes just over a month after Trent’s teammate, 49ers cornerback Charvarius Ward, announced the death of his 23-month-old daughter, Amani Joy

“We are heartbroken that our beautiful baby girl, Amani Joy passed away on Monday morning,” Ward wrote via Instagram on October 30. “She was the best blessing we could have asked for, and her joyous spirit made us smile from ear to ear. She taught us to have patience, trust and a positive outlook on life. She showed us true strength and bravery.”

A cause of death for Ward’s daughter was not announced.
