17-year-old suspect surrenders to police investigating shooting at Candlelight Plaza

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — A 17-year-old boy suspected of shooting a 14-year-old boy on Dec. 16 inside a mobile home in the 300 block of Candlelight Plaza turned himself to police Monday afternoon at the Tippecanoe County Sheriff’s Office.

On Dec. 16, the 17-year-old ran away after the shooting inside the mobile home west of West Lafayette, according to sheriff’s office reports.

The teenager was booked into a juvenile detention center in another county on Monday. He is suspected of burglary with serious bodily injury, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, intimidation with a deadly weapon, intimidation and dangerous possession of a firearm, according to the sheriff’s office.

After the shooting, the 14-year-old boy was taken to Riley’s Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. A family member told the Journal & Courier last month that the boy endured two surgeries.

The 14-year-old boy is in stable condition, the sheriff’s office said Thursday.
