Best Robes, Overall
Brooklinen makes some of our favorite sheets and duvets, but we don’t have to convince you that the brand’s waffle robe is worth a try: There are over 1,200 five-star reviews pleading its case. In case you need more convincing, not one, but two AD shopping editors stand by the design. Commerce editor Audrey Lee calls it “a real treat after a shower,” noting that “the super absorbent and quick-drying terry cloth lets me skip the regular towel dry.”
Senior commerce editor Nashia Baker adds that the robe is “fast-drying and so soft to curl up in” after a shower. “It has a sturdy feel that lasts wash after wash without any wear and tear,” she adds. “It’s also a bit longer than some of my other robes (I’m 5′ 4″ and it hits right around my ankles) so I’m basically warm from head to toe.”
“This robe has a cushy thickness and is fairly long—which I appreciate as a tall person whose towels often run short,” says commerce producer Lauren Arzbaecher. “The waffle texture is deceptively thick, and seems to help wick moisture away quickly.” It’s no wonder why over 1,000 other reviewers have given the loungewear a perfect five stars, saying that it’s impossibly comfy, ultra-lightweight, and a fantastic gift to give for whatever holiday is around the corner.
100% organic Turkish cotton
Commerce writer Julia Harrison says that she has been known to eat, sleep, cook, snack, retrieve mail, do laundry, and entertain house guests in this full length beauty. Responsibly made with organic textiles and pre-tumbled for extra softness, it’s the kind of cotton robe that gets better with each wash. Harrison called the material “lightweight, soft, luxurious without feeling too precious to wear. I’ve washed this a dozen times at least, and it’s still as good as new.”
100% Grade A Mongolian cashmere
Quince’s cashmere’s robe is the embodiment of self care. “Slipping on the knitted silhouette makes even the dreariest days feel heavenly,” says Lee. She tried this robe in a variety of settings—during the work day, while binge-watching Netflix, even cleaning the house—and the luxe material was just as cozy after hours of wear. “Like most cashmere, you’re likely going to face some pilling, but it’s nothing that a sweater shaver or a good sweater brush can’t handle.” When it’s time for a wash, Lee says mild or cashmere detergent and a delicate cycle is key, having owned a ton of cashmere from Quince that holds up nicely, even after multiple washes.

- Men’s: S–XXL
Here’s a robe so stylish you might be tempted to wear it out of the house. “Lunya’s ethos is centered around taking time to rest and recharge and the brand’s washable silk robe is the perfect uniform for just that. The robe is breezy with a cooling effect that’s perfect for spring and summer,” Lee says. Carefully crafted from washing machine-friendly, thermoregulating silk, this robe makes staying in a celebration. “If I hadn’t already washed silk products from Lunya multiple times with no issue, I wouldn’t believe this is washable silk,” Lee adds. “While other washable silks I’ve tested feel paper-thin and don’t always survive a trip through the washing machine, this one has just the right amount of heft with minimal color fading to boot.”
100% USA-grown extra-long-staple Supima cotton
We like that Onsen’s Japanese spa-inspired waffle robe has a hood and is made of the same material as their superior waffle knit bath towels, so you feel comfortably swathed in cotton at all times. “Maybe it’s because this robe is built with the spa in mind, but it’s actually perfect to take along on a pool or beach day,” says Lee. “I love that the waffle material is incredibly fast-drying—like scary fast—and that the overall look doesn’t scream ‘bathrobe.” Another major advantage? You won’t find any lint buildup in the dryer with this design thanks to the tight knit Japanese weaving technique that the retailer employs.
95% premium viscose from bamboo, 5% spandex
Cozy Earth, the bedding brand behind some of our favorite sheets (Oprah’s too!), also makes a pretty noteworthy robe. “Even the hottest weather is no match for the brand’s stretch-knit material, made from breathable and moisture-wicking bamboo viscose fabric that never pills in the wash,” says Lee. “I actually have a full set of the brand’s bamboo loungewear and what’s nice is I definitely feel a cooling effect when walking about doing household chores but it’s also super warming if you’re swaddled up in a cozy blanket.”
100% Cotton, Polyester fill
The Skin Sierra robe’s padded construction makes the perfect outer layer when the day’s activities consist of lounging around the house and staying comfy. “I love that the Sierra robe is quilted, assuring that all the cushiony filler remains well-dispersed, and the oversized, shapeless silhouette makes it ideal for layering,” says AD PRO senior editor Mel Studach. “My only wish is that the house coat didn’t take up so much space in a suitcase because it’s dearly missed during my travels!”
Other Robes We Love
If the ultra-plush robe life isn’t for you, Knix’s waffle knit robe is a great alternative. “This Knix robe is a great breathable option that’s still ultra-soft to wear whenever I want something comfortable to snuggle up in,” says senior commerce editor Nashia Baker. “I like that its wide sleeves and relaxed silhouette make it feel even airier with every wear and that it’s easy to throw in the wash.”
If you’re not an early bird, a high-quality robe—like this one from Coyuchi—is sure to change that. You definitely won’t come across an alpaca robe every day (and the price tag certainly reflects how fine the material is), but Coyuchi promises this design is as lightweight as wool without the bulk. We think it would make the perfect gift for that special someone who could use a little bit of TLC in their life.
Small, medium, large, extra large
Frette’s been perfecting their luxury home goods for almost 200 years, meaning their textiles are the real deal. And don’t just take our word for it, as their linens have been used in many a five-star hotel. If you’re still not convinced, we think the brand’s elegant Oasis robe should sway your opinion.
This is the bathrobe you need for summertime bliss. “It is nice and lightweight to wear when the temperatures are on the rise, but it’s also been nice to layer this piece with PJs this winter,” says senior commerce editor Nashia Baker. “I typically don’t opt for printed robes either, but this adorable option convinced me. It has a drapey, loose fit that makes its one-size silhouette comfortable for relaxed wear.”
- Women’s: XS–XL
- Men’s: S–XXL
Sunday Citizen promises that once you try their ribbed bathrobe, you’ll never want to go back to your old fave. Maybe it’s because the cotton rib feels spa-quality, and is made of super absorbent Turkish cotton.
Seen on TV, film, and probably on your TikTok FYP page, Dusen Dusen’s take on the classic bathrobe involves their signature bright stripes done up in primary hues to help you start your day on a sunny note. We think it’s the perfect item to don while you sip your morning café au lait or fetch the paper.
100% organic Indian cotton
Block Shop’s robes are wearable art—just ask our former cover star Maurice Harris who we photographed in the Bird of Paradise robe. Or AD contributor Rachel Davies, who writes the newsletter Personal Space. “I love the vivid colors of all of Block Shop’s robes, in particular the sunnier colors like the Apricot shade that I have. It’s a pick-me-up anytime I put it on and it looks sweet hung up in my bathroom when I’m not wearing it, too,” says Davies. “The linen of Block Shop’s robes is particularly great for the summer when you just can’t stomach a thick plush robe, but I wear it in the winter as an extra layer around the house too.”
100% cotton with a 90% recycled polyester quilting and 10% bonding fill
If you’re wondering why our senior digital design editor Sydney Gore is “genuinely excited to get out of bed” these days, it’s because she says the Offhours Homecoat “literally feels like you’re wearing a comforter.” With an almost weighted blanket-like quality, it’s one of the best robes to reach for if you’ve just come home from a long day or plan on settling down for the night.
How We Tested the Best Robes
Consider us comfort advisors, here to guide you towards the best bathrobes worth adding to your self-care arsenal. We put style at the forefront when compiling this list. But some of the questions we asked our testers were about what drew them to their selection (did they know the brand? Was it the material? The silhouette?) and how the robes wore over time.
We also made sure that we tested a variety of robe styles—from the waffle weave Parachute design Arzbaecher tested to Lee’s silk Lunya number—and asked editors why these particular styles worked for their needs (Is it a particularly good choice for a specific climate? Post-shower? Perfect for lounging on the sofa with a cup of tea and Netflix?). Testers also detailed important notes about the different materials—including cotton, cashmere, and polyester—and we highlighted standout information shoppers should be aware of, including care instructions, notes about how the robes have held up after multiple washes, as well as any notes about pricing.
