Zach Johnson doesn’t discount Tiger Woods in the Ryder Cup

Johnson, the US captain, said that he would not discount Woods’ selection to play in the tournament in Hawaii if Woods didn’t automatically qualify.
He was scoring some points and numbers, so I would consider him joining the team. Johnson stated Wednesday at a media conference that he believes Johnson is showing signs of being competitive in No. 1.
“And then No. 2. That discussion would be held with the other players in that team, and he specifically. One thing I trust in Tiger Woods is his commitment to this team and future Cups. Extremely invested. Johnson added, “I can’t say that enough.”
“And then, I believe you would do any and all for the benefit of the team. I’m sure he would reply… I don’t like making assumptions, but I am confident that he would answer, “Yeah, you can play, or I can’t.”
Johnson stated last year that Woods would participate in the US Ryder Cup “in a capacity” and added that Woods had made it “a priority.”
Johnson stated, “Given his personality and the things he believes, I cannot tell you right now: I don’t know if I will be here next season, but he will still be part of this team at some point.”
Johnson acknowledged that Woods’ health might make it more difficult.
The captain of the US Ryder Cup said that he had been through “some things” recently, which could be travel or other issues.
Woods’ career has been hampered by injury. His playing time was cut after he sustained serious leg injuries in a car accident on February 20, 2021.
The 47-year old withdrew from December’s Hero World Challenge due to foot pain. He also appeared to be having difficulty with movement during The Match 7 that month.
Pick and choose a few events per year, and you will play around with them. You train around it and prepare yourself for that. You play. That’s the way I think I’m going have to play it.
It’s a sad reality, but it is my reality. It’s something I can understand and accept.
The Ryder Cup, a biennial competition that alternates between Europe or the USA, is being played in Italy this year for the first and last time — September 25th to October 1 at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club. It is located 10 miles from Rome’s center.
After a historic win over Europe at Whistling Straits, Team USA regained The Ryder Cup in 2021.
