The New York Yankees released third baseman Josh Donaldson, the team announced Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know:
- Donaldson was placed on the 60-day injured list with a right calf issue on July 20, meaning he is eligible to come off the IL in mid-September. Manager Aaron Boone said this past weekend that Donaldson was working toward a rehab assignment.
- The 37-year-old slashed .142/.225/.434 with 10 home runs before the injury.
- The former American League MVP is a pending free agent and previously told The Athletic he was undecided on whether he would try to play on or retire after this season.
Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees released INF Josh Donaldson from the roster.
