Former Congressman and 2024 GOP presidential candidate Will Hurd jogged to the podium at the Iowa GOP’s Lincoln Dinner,  and he nearly had to jog off at the end, but for a different reason.

After talking about the struggle his parents faced as an interracial couple and his ascent to Congress, Hurd ended on a very negative note, claiming that Donald Trump is only running again to avoid prison. The former (?) CIA officer said:

Donald Trump isn’t running to make America Great again. Donald Trump is not running to represent the people who voted for him in 2016 and 2020. Donald Trump is running to stay out of prison. And if we elect —

He was interrupted by boos.

I know, I know, I know, I know, I know. Listen, I know the truth — the truth is hard, but if we elect Donald Trump, we are willingly given Joe Biden four more years in the White House and America can’t handle that. God bless you, and God bless America.

It’s unclear, but it sounds like someone is saying “loser” at the end. It can’t be the name of the next speaker, because that was Miami Mayor Francis Suarez.

Whether or not some unknown but mic’d person said “loser” at the end there or it had nothing to do with Hurd, the audience was not at all happy with Hurd’s assessment of front-runner Trump’s candidacy. Fox News reporter Bill Melugin was in attendance and reported that a man next to him yelled, “Go home you son of a bitch” to Hurd.

Suarez, the next speaker, thanked Hurd for giving him such a great opening; after Hurd’s remarks, the audience was sure to like anybody else. No word yet as to whether Hurd and Trump ran into each other backstage or not.
