Tesla Inc. It said that it will invest $3.6 billion to construct electric vehicle batteries and an all-electric semi-heavy-duty truck at a Reno, Nev. production site.
Tesla announced Tuesday that the new battery operation will produce its latest 4680 cells, which can be used in up to 2 million vehicles per year. The company will also construct a facility to produce high volumes of its Semi, which was launched late last year. However, the company didn’t provide any production estimates.
The Tesla factory in the region makes electric motors, battery packs and energy storage products such as the Powerwall. It was established in June 2014.
Elon Musk handed the first Semi trucks over to PepsiCo last week. Tesla stated that it plans to make 50,000 Semis in North America by 2024.
Mitch Landrieu (a senior White House advisor) stated in a statement that the project will generate more than 3,000 high-paying jobs in Nevada helping America to lead in clean energy manufacturing and strengthening our energy security.
