Pedro Rocha will continue in his role as interim president of the RFEF (Spanish FA) until its next set of elections, which are due next year.

Following an RFEF board of directors meeting earlier today, the organisation said the 68-year-old will “will lead the transition process”.

Rocha took over as president following Luis Rubiales’ suspension by FIFA, with the 46-year-old resigning from the role earlier this week.

Rubiales’ departure came after a global backlash against him the aftermath of last month’s Women’s World Cup final, which Spain won. He is facing legal action after kissing Jenni Hermoso at the medal ceremony, grabbed his crotch in the stadium celebrating Spain’s 1-0 win over England and later launched a staunch defence of his own actions in which he criticised “false feminism”.

Following Rubiales’ FIFA suspension, Rocha led the RFEF in apologising to “the world of football and society” for Rubailes’ conduct.

“We must start at the beginning. It is essential to guarantee the future of Spanish football to undertake transformations progressively and recover the dignity and credibility lost after the events of the World Cup,” said Rocha.

“This institution is above people and it is vital that it remains strong. We are going to work tirelessly on this, stabilising first to progress later,”
