Armondo Blount, a five-star defensive lineman in the 2025 cycle from Miami Central, committed to the hometown Miami Hurricanes on Thursday night. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Blount is the fourth five-star recruit to commit to the Hurricanes since Mario Cristobal took over as coach in December 2021. He joins 2024 local receiver Joshisa Trader of Hollywood Chaminade and 2023 offensive tackles Francis Mauigoa and Samson Okunlola.
  • Blount is the No. 2-ranked defensive lineman in his class and ranks No. 5 overall. He attended Miami’s win last weekend over Texas A&M — its first over an SEC opponent in a decade — and is the second blue-chip recruit to commit to Miami since the game. Four-star Class of 2025 receiver Waden Charles of Palm Beach (Fla.) Central committed earlier this week.
  • Blount produced 30 tackles for loss and 16 sacks in 11 games for Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard as a sophomore and has been dominant early in his junior year with three sacks through his first two games.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

What does this mean for Miami?

Cristobal pushed hard to land elite defensive linemen in the 2024 cycle and just missed out on landing pledges from five-stars David Stone, Justin Scott, Collin Simmons and Dylan Stewart. Blount is Miami’s first five-star defensive line commitment since Leonard Taylor in 2021.
