The Miami Hurricanes picked up their first commitment from a 2025 recruit Friday night in three-star quarterback Luke Nickel from Alpharetta (Ga.) Milton High School. Here’s what you need to know:
- Nickel is ranked 26th among quarterbacks in his class per the 247Sports Composite. He had recent offers from Georgia Tech, Duke, USF, Louisville, UCF, Nebraska, Minnesota and Wisconsin, among others.
- Last season, Nickel completed 58.5 percent of his 337 pass attempts for 2,507 yards, 24 touchdowns and eight interceptions, and he ran for 208 yards and three scores.
- His brother, Jack, signed with Michigan State as a tight end in the 2022 cycle.

What does this mean for the Hurricanes?
Miami hasn’t signed a blue-chip quarterback since Mario Cristobal took over as coach. Although Nickel is a three-star, this was an important first step in establishing some momentum in the Class of 2025. Miami has a three-star quarterback from Georgia committed to its 2024 recruiting class in Judd Anderson and signed another in 2023 from Milton, Fla., in Emory Williams, an Elite 11 finalist.
