Justin Gaethje defeated Dustin Poirier via knockout to claim the BMF belt Saturday night at Delta Center in Salt Lake City. Here’s what you need to know:

  • A high kick from Gaethje finished Poirier in Round 2 after Gaethje edged Poirier in Round 1, 10-9.
  • Gaethje (25-4) has now won three of his last four fights and is expected to fight the winner of Islam Makhachev and Charles Oliveira, who square off in the main event of UFC 294 in October, for the lightweight belt.
  • Poirier (29-8-1) has now lost two of his last three fights.
  • In the co-main event between two former champions, Alex Pereira defeated Jan Blachowicz via a split decision.
