Miley Cyrus’s “Flowers” will forever be known as the track that launched a thousand cheating rumors—including speculation that Jennifer Lawrence had an affair with her Hunger Games costar and Cyrus’s ex-husband Liam Hemsworth. Well, I hate to disappoint all of those would-be sleuths on TikTok and Twitter, but Lawrence has definitively shut it down.

During a game of “Plead the Fifth” on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen on June 26, the host asked J.Law point-blank whether the affair rumors had any truth to them. “There was already a lot of talk that the music video was referencing a secret fling that you had with Liam Hemsworth while he was with Miley Cyrus,” Cohen began, but before he had even finished the question, Lawrence jumped in. “Not true,” she said. “Not true, total rumor.”

In the “Flowers” video Cyrus wears a gold lamé dress, which some fans on TikTok and elsewhere took as a reference to the gold dress Lawrence wore to the Hunger Games premiere, where she posed for red-carpet photos with Hemsworth (who was, as a reminder, her costar in the film). Lawrence says this is just coincidence. “I mean, we all know me and Liam, like, kissed one time,” she said on WWHL. “It was years after they broke up, so I just assume that was a coincidence.”
Honestly, Cyrus included so many crystal-clear allusions to Hemsworth cheating in the lyrics to “Flowers” that there’s really no need to bring Jennifer Lawrence into all of this.
