Baltimore Ravens running back J.K. Dobbins tore his Achilles and his season is over, coach John Harbaugh said Sunday. Here’s what you need to know:

  • “I’m crestfallen for him. He will be back. He’s a young guy,” Harbaugh said after the Ravens’ Week 1 win over the Houston Texans.
  • Dobbins limped off the field during the game, which ended 25-9, and was later ruled out with an ankle injury. He had eight carries for 22 yards and one touchdown before exiting.
  • Dobbins, 24, is in the final year of his rookie deal, which includes a base salary of just under $1.4 million.
  • Ravens left tackle Ronnie Stanley and starting center Tyler Linderbaum also appeared to suffer injuries in the fourth quarter.

The Athletic’s instant analysis:

Ravens seal win vs. Texans, but injuries are major concern

Cornerback Marcus Williams was the first Ravens starter to go down. He hurt his shoulder late in the second quarter and didn’t return. Then, it was Dobbins who went down in the third quarter. He went to the locker room unable to put any weight on his foot. Stanley was the third starter to leave the game as he went down clutching his right knee. Finally, Linderbaum left the game after his ankle got rolled up on. This victory came at a significant cost for the Ravens who have to go on the road and play Cincinnati next week. — Zrebiec

Backstory

Dobbins was a second-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. He rushed for 805 yards and nine touchdowns during the 2020 season. Dobbins was sidelined for the entire 2021 campaign as a result of a knee injury he sustained that preseason.

He played in nine of the Ravens’ 18 total games last season, and was shut down at one point to have another procedure on his knee. After he returned, he averaged nearly 7.0 yards per carry.
