Second Amendment proponents scored another major victory on Friday, this time in California. Judge Roger Benitez ruled that the state’s ban on “high capacity” magazines was unconstitutional, dealing a blow to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s agenda.
Here’s a bit of the decision.
One government solution to a few mad men with guns is a law that makes into criminals responsible, law-abiding people wanting larger magazines simply to protect themselves. The history and tradition of the Second Amendment clearly supports state laws against the use or misuse of firearms with unlawful intent, but not the disarmament of the law-abiding citizen. That kind of a solution is an infringement on the Constitutional right of citizens to keep and bear arms.
Newsom didn’t take it very well. He went on an unhinged rant, accusing the judge of being a “right-wing zealot” with no regard for “human life.”

I’ve got some bad news for Newsom. According to his own party, he is a dangerous racist who should not be allowed to speak. In fact, I’ve been assured that attacking a judge in such a manner is a direct threat to democracy. It is the kind of tactic a petty dictator adopts when they can’t otherwise make a sound legal argument.
In fact, Newsom’s outburst is so dangerous that the judge must institute a gag order in this case. These affronts to the judicial system can’t not be allowed to stand. After all, the State of California is the defendant in the lawsuit and Newsom is its chief executive. He is clearly putting the judge’s life in danger.
Given that the State of Calif is a defendant and Newsom is the chief executive of the Calif, I think a Protective Order is called for to preserve the integrity of the proceedings from his wild claims and accusations about the Court, Founding Fathers., and the Constitution.

Newsom must be stopped. The threat he poses to our norms is simply too great. His intimidation tactics are an affront to the American system of governance and damage the very soul of the nation. He is simply unfit for office given his lack of self-control and respect.
Am I being somewhat sarcastic? Sure. But the new rules are in effect. If going after a judge is out of bounds for a Republican, it’s out of bounds for a Democrat. And if judges are going to muzzle Republicans for lashing out, they should do the same to Democrats. So is it time for a gag order against Newsom? You bet.
