- Senior defensive back Sebastian Castro snagged a pick six to put the Hawkeyes up 17-0 late in the second quarter.
- Iowa State QB Rocco Becht hit 23 of 44 attempts for 203 yards, one TD and the interception Castro caught.
- Ferentz now has a career record of 200-136.
Backstory
Aside from 2020, the Hawkeyes and Cyclones have played annually since 1977.
Iowa has now won the last six games in Ames, including a 27-17 victory in a top-10 duel two years ago. The Cyclones returned the favor last year with a 10-7 win at Kinnick Stadium. It was Iowa State’s first Cy-Hawk victory for Matt Campbell and the first for the program since 2014
A low-scoring affair was expected, as the Hawkeyes and Cyclones were two of the least productive offenses among Power-5 schools last year. Iowa averaged 17.4 points per game while Iowa State came in at 20.2 points per game.
