New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley will miss Thursday’s game against the San Francisco 49ers due to a sprained ankle suffered in Sunday’s win against the Arizona Cardinals, a league source said. Here’s what you need to know:

  • Barkley will be week to week with the injury. An MRI on Monday in Arizona revealed the sprain.
  • Barkley left Sunday’s game in the fourth quarter after he was pulled down awkwardly following a 2-yard run.
  • Matt Breida and Gary Brightwell are the next two running backs behind Barkley on the Giants’ depth chart.

Backstory

The Giants star had to be helped off the field following the injury and broadcast cameras showed him slam his helmet down in frustration after being examined by trainers.

Barkley has 114 rushing yards and one touchdown on 29 carries this season.

This story will be updated.
