A fan has been arrested for engaging in tragedy chanting during Sunday’s 1-1 draw between Chelsea and Liverpool at Stamford Bridge.
The Met Police confirmed that another man had also been ejected from the stadium after being “suspected of engaging in this behaviour”.
A statement from the Met Police’s football unit on Monday read: “Officers have been made aware of reports on social media re: tragedy chanting at Chelsea v Liverpool.
“Working with the club we have identified two males suspected of engaging in this behaviour.
“One was arrested on suspicion of public order offences and the other was ejected.”
There have been multiple incidents of offensive chanting occurring during recent matches between Chelsea and Liverpool.
Last season, after a goalless draw in April between the two sides at Stamford Bridge, Chelsea condemned their supporters for chanting about the Hillsborough disaster. Similarly, in January sixteen Chelsea fans were ejected from the away end at Anfield for offensive chants in relation to the Hillsborough disaster.
The Football Association raised concerns last November about the frequency of offensive chanting about the tragedy, which saw 97 Liverpool supporters lose their lives in 1989.
