Emma Watson has proven once again that she is every bit as clever as Hermione Granger. Instead of relying on nudity or some or shocking gimmick to get attention for her latest venture—a gin company she founded with her brother—she wore a designer dress that’s just plain confusing. Yep, I’ve been staring at this ad for ten minutes, and I’m no closer to figuring it out!
In the picture, Watson and Watson smile, seemingly looking at something just out of frame. Alex Watson has his light blue shirt buttoned…incorrectly? Or maybe the bottom is supposed to be uneven. But all of that confusion is quickly dwarfed by Emma’s Loewe dress, which looks like it’s maybe a light blue cotton…draped over…wire? It sticks up in spikes around her collarbone creating a sort of “half-constructed tent” look. It really has to be seen to be understood, and even then it won’t make sense, but see for yourself here.
Emma Watson’s is a true fashion darling (this lace sheer dress paired with a black blazer look was so good), so a daring look like this is par for the course.
And here’s the same dress as it was shown on the runway. Sadly there were no side views available.

The best part of her latest ensemble, though, is the comments, which aren’t mean-spirited at all but do lightly roast the garment. “The dress said wingardium leviosa” reads the top comment, to which we are legally bound to respond, it’s LeviOsa, not LevioSA!
Another added, “This dress is defying physics.” Yup. One commenter drew a comparison between Watson—who played Belle in the live-action *Beauty and the Beast—*and another Disney princess: “She’s wearing what Ariel wore when she got legs lol.” Wrote an equally confused follower, “After reading through comments I feel less bad about how long I had to stare at her dress to figure out what was happening 😂” Okay but…what IS happening? And how long did you stare? Do I have to devote an entire afternoon to this?
