Sit Test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the chair have a tendency to sag?
When you’re sitting on the Boa Pouf, you really can’t do much else—and maybe that’s the whole point. Despite the tall energy I’ve been told I give off, I’m only five foot four, and I found it slightly restrictive in terms of mobility and functionality. (I can only imagine how uncomfortable this would be for someone larger than me.) I wish that this chair was wider so you could really lean back and sink into it. I think I was expecting this to feel like sitting on a pool float, which wasn’t the reality. It’s so beautiful though!
Is the chair suitable for particular decor styles, and if so, which?
This is such a fun piece for a home, I think it works best in contemporary spaces that embrace modernity and color. The best example that comes to mind is the San Francisco loft of Vivid Wu and Aden Wang—their combined aesthetic is the perfect mix of Scandinavian minimalism and retro postmodern design.
Is it durable / practical in a modern home?
It’s definitely durable, I can’t imagine this product falling apart. It’s soft but stable and has a little bounce to it.
Is the chair kid and / or dog friendly?
I can’t speak to this as a single person who lives alone, but the size of the Boa seems perfect for a child that you don’t want moving around too much—it would actually be fairly challenging for a kid to crawl out of the hole if you needed to safely secure them in place! If you don’t believe me, Sabine previously told us that it helped her son while he was learning how to walk, noting that “it’s also a perfect spot to safely place him if I have to quickly leave the room.”
What are the care and cleaning instructions? Do you think stains could be easily removed?
Every fabric requires its own care and maintenance, but Hem provides an instruction manual for all of their products. Since dust and dirt wear textiles down over time, the brand advises regular cleaning and maintenance to ensure the longest possible lifetime. You can vacuum the product on a low to medium setting, preferably with an upholstery nozzle, but should be careful not to rub the material with force as this potentially could damage it.
Hem recommends removing stains by gently patting the area with a cloth wrung in lukewarm to hot water (preferably distilled), starting from the outer rim of the spill and working toward the center. If the stain is persistent, they recommend using an environmentally friendly mild detergent, and then patting the area down again. (To avoid any unforeseen damages, try the detergent on a less visible area of the product.) Finish off the stain removal by repeating the process with clean water to absorb any residue detergents, then using a dry cloth to mop up any remaining water.
Otherwise, contact a professional cleaning company for additional advice regarding stains. Upholstered furniture can also be affected by exposure to direct sunlight or heat, so Hem strongly recommends that you avoid placing the products next to windows, radiators or fireplaces.
