Just one day after adding a 2024 commit via a flip, Alabama added another when in-state safety Rydarrius “Red” Morgan announced his commitment to the Crimson Tide from Florida State on Wednesday. Morgan, who attends Central High School in Phenix City, Alabama, is teammates with defensive line commit Isaia Faga, who flipped to Alabama from Utah in late June.

Here’s what you need to know:

  • Morgan, listed at 5-foot-11 and 175 pounds, is a consensus three-star recruit according to On3’s composite rankings.
  • He’s the fifth defensive back commitment in Alabama’s 2024 class, joining five-star Jaylen Mbakwe and four-stars Zabien Brown, Jameer Grimsley and Peyton Woodyard, who flipped from Georgia on Tuesday.
  • With Morgan’s flip, Alabama holds 17 commitments, ranking No. 3 nationally by On3.

What it means for Alabama

Alabama’s defense places an emphasis on versatility. What it’s getting in Morgan is a player that could fit into any position in the secondary. He finished last season with 50 tackles, five tackles for loss, two interceptions and four pass breakups.

His highlight tape shows Morgan lining up both in the box and at deep safety. He’ll have to add weight to his frame especially if he’ll play Star, but he plays bigger than his size and is a willing tackler. Perhaps what stands out most is his speed whether he’s defending in coverage or chasing down a ball carrier; he has the tools to transition to cornerback.

Alabama’s recruiting momentum is picking up as the season approaches. With more spots to fill in the class, anticipate the Tide to maintain their top three national ranking.
