Academy Sports & Outdoors Promotes Matt McCabe To EVP And CMM

The reorganization is complete at Academy Sports & Outdoors (ASO). Matt McCabe has been promoted to Executive Vice President and Chief Merchandising Officer succeeding Steve Lawrence who was promoted to Chief Executive Officer of the company.

Mr. McCabe was senior vice-president and GMM of Footwear since September 2017. He joined ASO in December 2016 as VP for Athletic and Licensed Apparel. Prior to that he served a VP at Goldsmith International where he led the apparel. footwear and soft consumables buying and private brand business. He also held various leadership roles at Bon Ton Department Stores, Bachrach, Sears Roebuck & Co., and Marc Shale. Matt earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Miami University.

Academy Sports & Outdoors is a full-line sporting goods and outdoor recreation retailer. Originally founded in 1938 as a family business in Texas. Academy has grown to 269 stores across 18 states. Academy’s mission is to provide “fun for all”.

POSTSCRIPT: Matt McCabe is seasoned and knows the needs of Academy. He will build a strong team to help add 80 to 100 new stores to the company. New items will be added to strengthen the merchandise assortment.
