If there’s a nastier piece of work in the House of Representatives than Rep. Ayanna Presley (D-MA) then I’m hard-pressed to think of who that may be. She is strident, she is abrasive, and she seems to have very little understanding (or concern) as to how the Constitution works or how things in this country are set up the way they are – including the Bill of Rights.

In the latest example of this lack of understanding, she remonstrated with Congressional Republicans for quoting the late Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.  – fortunately, Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) was there and ready with a verbal beatdown for the “Squad” member.

See for yourself:

Rep. Higgins responded forcefully, citing his service, his oath to the Constitution – and that he will continue to cite and quote Dr. King when and where he sees fit. That’s the only possible response to a hateful, constitutionally ignorant rant like the one delivered by Rep. Pressley. He said in part:

I appreciate my Democrat colleague for exemplifying exactly the kind of oppression of freedoms that we were referencing. How about we’ll quote whoever we want to quote? How about that’s my First Amendment right? That’s exactly the kind of baked-in oppression – like how dare a white Republican quote Martin Luther King? We actually had a Congressman say that just now in this committee. And thank you, good lady, for once again exemplifying the type of oppression that we stand against. You know I’m right; you know I’m right.

You know what? He’s 100 percent right. In every particular.

Here is another quote from Dr. King that is illuminating — probably not to Rep. Pressley, as I doubt she is capable of being illuminated by Dr. King or anyone else — but just for the record:

Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.

That’s an eloquent statement; darkness vs. light, hate vs. love. Which side of these things does Ayanna Pressley come down on? She is literally ranting at a fellow member of the House of Representatives for quoting someone who wanted his children judged by the content of their character, not by the color of their skin.

Here’s another quote from Dr. King:

Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.

Free speech matters. Freedom of expression in any form matters. Standing up to would-be tyrants like Ayanna Presley matters. Dr. King understood this; what’s more, he fought for it. Ayanna Pressley is not fit to walk in Dr. King’s shadow.

And to Ayanna Presley, I can only say this: I live in a free speech zone, Congresswoman. It’s called the United States of America, and I’ll say – and write – what I please when and where I please, and if you aren’t happy about that, too damn bad.
