Snow coupled with temps dipping below freezing has led to very slippery road conditions in Minnesota, namely in the Twin Cities metro area where the snow hit during the evening commute.

“Roads throughout the county are glare ice. Please limit travel while road crews and emergency services attempt to catch up,” said the Carver County Sheriff’s Office in a post on social media.

The Twin Cities office of the National Weather Service alerted drivers at 8:37 p.m. Wednesday that road conditions “remain very slick due to this evening’s snowfall,” and that temps below freezing will likely make for “slick travel” through the Thursday morning commute.

Between 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Wednesday the State Patrol reported 455 crashes, including 34 injury crashes and one fatality.

At 9:05 p.m., the MnDOT traffic alerts website was littered with more than 60 spinouts and crashes on metro area roads.
